I Can Lose Because He Won

“Because Jesus won for me, I was free to lose”1

Another one of those lessons I got wrong. I have never felt I was free to lose. Life is about winning. It is about being #1. Whoever comes in second is the first loser. Play fair but play to win. Second place trophies mean nothing. Nobody ever remembers who came in second.

In reality most people do not remember who came in first either. They are only concerned if THEY came in first. Spiritually we have our own, “Who Can Be The Best Contest”. Which kid gets the most stars for attendance (This never made sense because kids don’t drive. If they are not their it’s the parents that should lose a star not the kid.) Who is the best Christian you know? There is a great chance their are legalistic and prideful in it. Who is the most gracious Christian you know? Chances are they are prideful of their grace. We just can’t win. I like Paul find myself doing what I know I should not do and not doing what I know I should. I lose and the world tells me I a loser.

I am free to lose because Jesus won for me. The sin I battle and battle Jesus has already defeated. Every battle that matters in life, Jesus has won for me. If He has not won it, then it don’t matter anyway.

Romans 8:37 (NLT)

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Always remember that the Christian is fighting from victory not for victory.
